12/30/2007 HOAR FROST/RIME ICING

 

 

 

 

 

Early on the morning of December 30th, 2007 the perfect conditions to create hoar frost and rime icing occurred.  Very dense fog moved in during the predawn hours and as the supercooled droplets of water came in contact with cold outdoor surfaces such as tree branches and other objects, ice crystals grew and coated objects in a thick and frosty coating.  By morning the fog had lifted, but here's what it left behind.
