Taking pictures of lightning is a very challenging task.  First you need to position yourself in an area where you can take pictures of the lightning and yet avoid the rain that is usually falling all around it.  All of your camera settings need to be optimized so you can get the most out of your lightning images.  You have to have the patience to make all of the corrections necessary to optimize your pictures under rapidly changing lighting/weather conditions.  

 

Here are a few of my best lightning pictures over the past few years.  I have a long way to go in perfecting my lightning photography, but some of these aren't too bad...
