BLIZZARD OF 1987
This fast moving blizzard brought nearly a foot of wet snow to the Quad Cities in December 1987. The large amount of snow isn't all that unusual for this area, but the 50-60mph winds that accompanied it sure was! A few locations in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin saw wind gusts over 70mph as the intense low pressure cranked up over the Midwest. Thunder and lightning also accompanied the heaviest snow and in some cases lasted several hours.
